As years passed by, the vision of Keli grew, encompassing a long-term
perspective of India's performing arts. When Prithvi
joined hands with Keli in this noble endeavor we were moved beyond measure.
The magnanimity and generous support extended by Prithvi alone made Keli
accomplish the tasks that it undertook.
Prithvi Theatre - a dream project of Jennifer and Shashi Kapoor
was established in 1978.After struggling a lot in its initial days, Prithvi
moved into the forefront of the mainstream of theatre activities of the
country. Now it is a rendezvous of budding as well as professional dramatists.
Activities of this magnitude would not have been possible without the
support of sponsors.
We are thankful to ANZ Grindlays
Bank, Lawkim
Ltd., Max Touch Cultural heritage series and Orange
for their patronage for the previous festivals in the form of sponsorships
which is such a significant contributory factor in preserving and promoting
the art and culture of our country.
``There is a desperate need to keep our classical forms alive and vibrant
so that they don't end up as museum show pieces. We are fortunate to have
found a partner in Keli - whose aim seems to coincide with ours. Keli's
effort to keep alive and nurture the purity of the classical art forms
has given us the impetus to move forward in this area.''
Sanjana Kapoor - Festival Director & Director
of Prithvi
``It was after many years of promoting theatre that the Prithvi Theatre
felt the urgent need to widen its focus of activities to other areas of
classical arts in India. In this age of globalization and rapid advances
in communications, it seemed to us most imperative to demystify the classical
arts and present the treasures of our cultural heritage in their most
authentic and unadulterated form. Whilst Prithvi Theatre is constantly
attempting to rediscover the relevance of theatre today, we find it is
of great value to this same exploration, to keep a solid link with the
purest of our classical traditions. To achieve this end we are fortunate
to have found a worthy partnership in Keli, and are proud of the festivals
that we have brought to the city of Mumbai''.
Shashi Kapoor - Managing Trustee Prithvi
``We are proud to be a part of this festival of rhythm. Through Max Touch
Cultural Heritage Series, we are committed to promotion of culture, heritage,
and the performing arts, in the city of Mumbai, cutting across linguistic
groups and cultural boundaries. Our association with this festival is
in tune with this philosophy''.
